The Piano Memory app is a complete tool for practicing your musical memory and playing by ear – 100% free, ad-free, and requires no login. Piano Memory is a free app for ear training, musical memory practice, phrasing, and rhythm.
The app will play a note. Repeat it by clicking the corresponding key. If you play correctly, the app will repeat the note and add another one. With each round, the melody gets longer by one note. If you make a mistake - try playing the current melody from the beginning.
You earn points for every correctly played melody. The longer the melody and the more keys you use in your exercise, the more points you get. Playing entirely by ear gives you double points.
The app remembers the rhythm and tempo you play with (Smart Rhythm Mirror Feature). Instead of a mechanical note playback, the system answers you in your very own pulse. Thanks to this, you practice not only pitch recognition, but also your sense of rhythm, phrasing, and musicality, turning the training into a fascinating "jam session".
Settings. How to prepare your personalized exercise?
Before clicking "Start game", you can click on the keys to select the ones that will be used in the exercise:
No dot: key excluded from the draw.
Blue dot: key is included in the draw.
Red dot (highlighted): if selected, the first note of the melody will be drawn only from these keys. If there are no such keys, the first note is drawn from all selected keys.
Want to keep your settings? Below the keyboard, you will find a link that automatically loads your selected keys. Simply copy it to save your custom exercise for later or share it with someone else.
App features
✓Personalized ear training and musical memory exercises.
✓Smart Rhythm Mirror Feature: Helps you practice your sense of rhythm, phrasing, musicality, and more... (see section below for details)
✓Completely free to use: The app is available without any hidden fees or paid premium plans.
✓No login or registration: You don't need to create an account or provide an email address. Just open the site and start training right away.
✓Device independence: You can do your musical training wherever it's convenient for you: on a smartphone (Android, iOS/iPhone), tablet, and computer running Windows, macOS, or Linux.
✓Quick start: Use the tool like a native app. In your smartphone browser menu, select "Add to Home screen" to create a convenient shortcut and always have the app at hand.
Smart Rhythm Mirror Feature
✓Development of natural musical phrasing. Instead of "typing in" notes at equal, robotic intervals, you learn to create musical sentences (phrases). If you play a sequence with a pause in the middle (e.g., ta-ta... ta-ta), the app will answer you in exactly the same way. This teaches you to think of music not as a string of single sounds, but as logical, interconnected groups.
✓Practicing rhythm and swing. You can consciously dictate a specific rhythm to the app. You can play a melody in a waltz rhythm (3/4), play it with swing, use syncopation or dotted values. The app becomes a "mirror" reflecting this rhythm, forcing you to stick to your own pulse in subsequent repetitions. (You can also change your playing style at any time).
✓Automatic tempo adjustment (Difficulty personalization). This is a huge help for beginners and a challenge for advanced players. A beginner can play the melody very slowly, giving themselves time to think - the app "understands" this and plays the next puzzle at the same slow, comfortable pace. An advanced musician can play the notes fast.
✓Much easier memorization (Mnemonic technique). The human brain remembers information much more easily if it has a given rhythm (which is why it's easier to remember the lyrics of a song than a poem read in a monotonous voice). By allowing the user to give the melody their own rhythm, the app helps them reach much higher levels and memorize longer strings of notes.
✓"Call and Response" fun (Introduction to improvisation). In jazz and popular music, there is a concept of "call and response" (exchanging musical phrases between musicians). Because the app adopts the player's dynamics, the exercise feels like a "jam session" with a virtual partner. This breaks the monotony and turns the training into an engaging game.
